North Avenue between Highway 99 and Freeway 41 was widened to accommodate the traffic demands of a growing industrial area. In its original state, North Avenue was a modest two lane road stressed from high amounts of commuter traffic and commercial trucking.
Curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements intermittently dotted the edges of the roadway and in some places, the pavement was in need of rehabilitation. The City's objective was to redevelop this stretch of North Avenue into a four lane divided roadway fitting the traffic patterns developing with the growth of adjacent industrial properties.
Blair, Church & Flynn's responsibilities included right-of-way and easement studies, roadway geometry design, traffic detour planning, sidewalk and pedestrian improvements, utility relocation and street lighting. The project was completed on-time and within the City's projected budget.
