For the Fourth Street Reconstruction project, from K Street to Lake Street, Blair, Church & Flynn is designing street improvements to provide a 4-lane divided roadway cross section. Fourth Street is a heavily used arterial roadway that provides access to numerous municipal and commercial properties in central Madera, as well as State Route 99 and adjacent residential neighborhoods. The project involves roadway widening, with the construction of concrete curb, gutter and sidewalk, raised medians, and landscape improvements. Project challenges include the presence of adjacent buildings and other improvements that result in design constraints affecting horizontal and vertical roadway geometry. The project is in the Schematic Design phase, and the City of Madera is currently reviewing the Schematic Design Report.
