The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) planned to extend State Route 180 (SR180) westward across Marks Avenue between Nielsen and Whitesbridge Avenues. The existing sewer main in this portion of Marks Avenue provided insufficient capacity for projected wastewater flows. This project provided the necessary additional capacity by the installation of approximately 2,214 feet of a parallel 36-inch sewer main in Marks Avenue.
Blair, Church & Flynn prepared the plans and specifications for the project. Due to potential conflicts with the planned SR180 improvements, the project sewer main needed to be constructed prior to construction of SR180. This required coordination with Caltrans relative to the both the location of the new sewer and the timing of the project. Additional coordination was required with a private developer who wanted to connect to the new sewer. The project had an estimated construction cost of approximately $1.4 million.
