To meet the demands of development in the northwest portion of the City, the City of Madera needed to construct a 24” sewer main with a length of approximately 2,000 feet. The sewer main alignment crossed the State Route 99 freeway and the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) track.
Blair, Church & Flynn prepared the plans and specifications for the project. The crossing of State Route 99 and the railroad track was accomplished by boring and jacking a steel casing across the rights-of-way. The steel casing crossed very sensitive utility facilities aligned parallel to the freeway and railroad, including a petroleum pipeline, a natural gas transmission pipeline, and several fiber optic communication cables. Applications for permits from both Caltrans and UPRR were submitted and permits received from both agencies. The project was constructed for approximately $520,000.
