Blair, Church & Flynn helped the Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District to create a picturesque facility that represents another step toweard solving the recreational space deficiencies of Southest Fresno, California. And Trolley Creek Park is a fine addition to FMFCD's inventory of almost 30 recreation sites, as it embraces innovative and creative architecture characterized by an historic Fresno theme. This theme showcases the notable landmarks of Fresno: the water tower, the Meux Home, and a full-size replica of a 1920 trolley car, pedestrian bridges and a dry model of Dry Creek.
The park is also a special place because all of its play equipment, pathways, picnic tables and restrooms are more than just "accessible" to visitors, it is fully usable with specialized features for all ranges of abilitites. The park, along with FMFCD's Oso de Oro Park, has played a large role in garnering national attention for Fresno's efforts toward handicapped integration.
Trolly Park's features include two picnic pavillions, open green space, unique play-safe matting around play structures, and an amphitheater,. The three acre-park is adjacent to a nine-acre landscaped ponding basin with permanent water feature and wildlife observation dock. The park has multiple uses, serving as a basin and groundwater recharge facility.
Construction of the $1.7 million park was funded almost entirely by grants and donations. It opened in 2004.
